Second clubhouse for domestic helpers to open next year

SINGAPORE — Foreign domestic workers here will soon have access to more facilities during their rest days, as the Foreign Domestic Worker Association for Social Support and Training (FAST) intends to open a second clubhouse to ramp up activities and provide extra support services to them.

SINGAPORE — Foreign domestic workers here will soon have access to more facilities during their rest days, as the Foreign Domestic Worker Association for Social Support and Training (FAST) intends to open a second clubhouse to ramp up activities and provide extra support services to them.

FAST president Seah Seng Choon announced this at Foreign Domestic Workers Day today (Nov 30). The new clubhouse will offer the same services as FAST’s clubhouse at Raeburn Park near the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station.

FAST, a charity that aims to promote skills training for maids, could not yet confirm the location of the clubhouse-cum-shelter, but it hopes to open the facility by the end of next year.

Senior Minister of State (Health and Manpower), Dr Amy Khor, who was the guest of honour at the event, urged employers to understand and adapt to the needs of maids to ensure their well-being. Maids, meanwhile, should highlight early on to employers any concerns they might have. Ultimately, open communication based on mutual respect and accommodation is the best guarantee of a successful working relationship, said Dr Khor. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
