SINGAPORE — A glass contractor who was captured on video fighting with another man on an MRT train has been fined S$1,500.

Teeng Kok Yong, 40, was convicted yesterday of one count of affray with 50-year-old Ng Cheng Kiat, an odd-job worker. In February, Ng was fined S$2,500 for his role in the brawl.

The scuffle took place on Jan 11 at around 11.40pm on a train travelling between Khatib and Yio Chu Kang MRT stations. Court documents stated that the incident occurred because Ng thought Teeng had made an offensive gesture at his girlfriend. A fight broke out after Ng confronted Teeng. The former grabbed Teeng and punched him in the face, while Teeng kicked Ng twice in the leg.

The maximum punishment for affray is one year in jail and a fine of S$5,000. CLAIRE HUANG
