SINGAPORE – More hospital services and specialist care will be available at Alexandra Hospital (AH) as the hospital reopens its Specialist Outpatient Clinics (SOC), operating theatres and other medical facilities on Wednesday (Jan 20).
It will mark the second phase of the hospital’s opening, which widens the hospital’s services beyond inpatient care for stable patients who are supported by allied health services, to support a larger suite of services including outpatient and rehabilitative care.
There will be 72 additional beds (including some intensive care beds), operating theatres, diagnostic radiology, day surgery facilities, clinical laboratories and an endoscopy centre at the hospital when it opens.
Services such as basic blood and radiological investigations are not yet available, however, and the 24-hour acute care clinic – to provide initial assessment, stabilisation, diagnostic evaluation and management of patients’ conditions – will only be ready between April and June this year.
Sengkang Health - the hospital’s operator - said members of the public looking for emergency services will have to visit the next nearest public hospitals, Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and National University Hospital.
“If critical emergency care is required, transfers to SGH will be done promptly and appropriately to ensure delivery of optimal care,” Sengkang Health said today in a news release.
In this second phase of opening, the hospital will also provide care across various medical specialties, including general medicine, general surgery and orthopaedic surgery.
Anticipating Wednesday’s opening, Sengkang Health CEO Prof Christopher Cheng said: “We hope the newly renovated AH with its lush greenery and tranquil surroundings offers patients a conducive environment for healing and recuperation.”
On August 11 last year, the hospital opened after some three months of renovation works, operating with 120 beds and 450 staff.
