SINGAPORE — The ban on shisha takes effect from tomorrow (Nov 28), with those who contravene the ban to face a fine of up to S$10,000, or jail of up to 6 months, or both.
Repeat offenders will face stiffer penalties — a fine of up to S$20,000, or jail of up to a year, or both.
The ban was first announced in Parliament earlier this month. Existing licensed tobacco importers and retailers who import or sell shisha tobacco will be allowed to continue doing so until July 31, 2016, so that they can clear their stock and make necessary adjustments to their businesses.
The amendment to the Tobacco (Control of Advertisements and Sale) Act to put the ban into effect was gazetted today.
Members of the public who have information on the import, distribution, sale or offer for sale of shisha tobacco by unlicensed operators may call 6684 2036 or 6684 2037 during office hours — 9am to 5.30pm on Mondays to Fridays.
