SINGAPORE — The Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) will be taking out an injunction against Sim Lim Square phone retailer Mobile Air, after the retailer declined to sign an agreement admitting to have committed unfair practices and pledging to stop such acts.
If the injunction is granted by the Court of Singapore, the company will be restricted from engaging in unfair practices as stated in the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act (CPFTA).
In a statement today (Nov 12), CASE said the entire process may take “several months”, as it would have to seek necessary approval from its relevant committees and the Injunctions Proposals Review Panel at the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI).
CASE Executive Director Seah Seng Choon told TODAY that Mobile Air “did not respond at all” to any of CASE’s correspondences.
Over the last month, the shop, owned by Mr Jover Chew, has faced public scrutiny after a video was made public showing a Vietnamese man kneeling and begging for a refund. The mobile phone shop has also been criticised for refunding a customer with more than S$1,000 in coins.
From August to October this year, 25 complaints were lodged with CASE over Mobile Air.
