BEIJING - 500 Singaporeans celebrated the nation's birthday in central Beijing despite it being a working day in China. The occasion was marked with several performances, including an original composition written to coincide with this year's National Day Parade theme 'Many Stories - One Singapore'. There was also a talk show hosted by Singaporean celebrity Irene Ang. Singapore's Ambassador in Beijing, Stanley Lo, described the event as meaningful with an increasing number of Singaporeans venturing overseas and in particular, China. Off stage, guests tucked into Singaporean cuisine like Bak Kut Teh, beef rendang, fried hokkien noodles and teh tarik. A multi-cultural cooking competition was also organised. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
