SINGAPORE — The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today (Sept 3) announced that it would print an additional six million folders for the SG50 commemorative notes so as to meet overwhelming demand for them.

From mid-November, two folders will be made available to every Singaporean household. They will be able to get the folders without having to first obtain the SG50 notes at the banks.

In addition, Singaporeans can continue to get the folders at the banks when they make an exchange for any of the commemorative notes. The MAS said there would be enough folders, so there is no need to rush for them.

But Singaporeans will not have to wait until November to get the commemorative notes. They can continue to make their exchange at participating banks, as well as enjoy priority status in getting the notes until Sept 30.

The MAS will announce further details at a later date.

Only Singaporeans will be allowed to obtain the folders, with the maximum number of folders they can get remaining at two per transaction.

Dr Andrew Khoo, MAS deputy managing director of corporate development, said: “The MAS is heartened by the positive response of Singaporeans to the SG50 commemorative notes and folders, and is working to ensure that all Singaporean households are able to obtain the folders.”

The MAS also reiterated its appeal to the public to refrain from queuing repeatedly to get more than two folders.
