SINGAPORE — Six roads around Victoria Concert Hall will be closed from noon today until 2am tomorrow, as part of traffic arrangements for the memorial service for the late former Cabinet minister Othman Wok.

The roads are: Fullerton Road, Connaught Drive, St Andrew’s Road (between Parliament Place and Coleman Street), Old Parliament Lane, Empress Place, and Parliament Place (between Supreme Court Lane and St Andrew’s Road). Eight public bus services plying the area — 75, 100, 107, 130, 131, 167, 195 and 961 — will also be diverted due to the road closures.

The memorial service for Mr Othman, who was a member of independent Singapore’s first Cabinet, is organised by OnePeople.sg. He died on Monday, aged 92, and was buried after a state-assisted funeral yesterday.

During the road closures, only police and emergency vehicles will be allowed to enter.

Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced, while vehicles parked illegally or causing obstruction will be towed away, the state-assisted funeral organising committee said.

The committee also said that theatre company Wild Rice would be cancelling its musical, La Cage Aux Folles, scheduled for 8pm today at Victoria Theatre. This was done out of respect for Mr Othman.

Patrons who bought tickets to the cancelled show should retain them and contact Sistic at 6348 5555 to make alternative arrangements.
