SINGAPORE — The first Smart Work Centres officially opened their doors to the public today (May 30), based at libraries in Jurong, Geylang East and Toa Payoh.
The Regus Express Centres, part of an Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) initiative to enable people to work closer to home and facilitate work-life balance and productivity, will be operated by flexible workspace provider Regus, in collaboration with the IDA and National Library Board.
“Smart Work Centres are alternative working spaces with professional facilities located within residential estates. Employees can look forward to better work-life balance and improved productivity by having access to professional collaborative spaces which are closer to home.” said Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications and Information, at the official opening held at Jurong Regional Library.
The three centres aims to offer a professional work environment designed to cater to different modes of work.
Users can work there daily, drop in ad-hoc to access an office environment close to home, even conduct meetings with clients.
Smart Work Centres are equipped with office facilities like meeting spaces and private workstations. Resources like secure Wi-Fi, copying and video-conferencing services are also provided.
Individuals can choose from several options to access the Centres’ pay-per-use facilities, ranging by the hour to a monthly membership offering that provides unlimited access, without the need to commit to traditional long term leases for workspaces.
“The Smart Work Centre initiative is useful for large enterprises as well as small tech start-ups, and also helps with talent attraction and retention with a more engaged workforce,” Mr Steve Leonard, Executive Deputy Chairman at IDA, said in the statement.
