SINGAPORE — This National Day, commuters will be able to travel for free on all SMRT bus and train services.

This includes train services along the North-South, East-West Lines, Circle Line and the Bukit Panjang LRT. Connections between rail lines operated by SMRT and SBS Transit, as well as trunk and feeder bus services and SMRT’s Night Rider will also be free.

Free travel will apply from the start of service to the end of operations on Aug 9, said SMRT in a press release today (Aug 1).

This will encourage people to attend National Day celebrations islandwide, said SMRT.

To further celebrate the nation’s birthday, there will also be activities at 10 MRT stations and five bus interchanges. They include a photo competition, photo walls for commuters to take pictures and giveaways of limited edition SG50 buttons and postcards.

President and Group Chief Executive Officer of SMRT Corporation Desmond Kuek said: “Our most meaningful contribution to the people of Singapore is a safe, reliable and customer-centric transport service that will carry Singapore forward for years to come.

“This we are determined to deliver as we renew our rail infrastructure and continue to enhance our service touchpoints, setting our sights on the future with a transport network that Singaporeans are proud of.”
