SINGAPORE — DBS Bank Internet banking services requiring the use of the iB Secure Device / Token were down for about three hours this morning (Dec 22).

This followed from an outage on its telephone hotline yesterday. All services have since been restored by about mid-day today, the bank said.

In a post on its Facebook page this morning, DBS Bank had warned users that some may experience difficulty using Internet banking.

But that was not before some unhappy customers had taken to social media to complain.

On social networking site Reddit, some unhappy customers complained about having difficulties paying their bills online, with a few claiming they had their tokens locked out after multiple unsuccessful tries earlier today.

One Amy Lai posted: “Error messages keep appearing on my screen saying my iB (number) generated is invalid".

Others vented their frustrations about how the bank only posted a service notification on Facebook and not on the bank’s website as well.

“Won’t it be good for a note to be placed on your website warning users of the issue instead of coming to know about it on Facebook?” Kelvin Khoo asked on a Facebook post.

Responding to queries from TODAY, DBS Bank confirmed that some customers experienced difficulty this morning accessing DBS/POSB iBanking services via their security token and were advised to use SMS verification to conduct their transactions instead.

However, some transactions require the token, and customers expressed frustration about the lack of a fallback option.

“Don’t make all options sole dependent on a token! Times like this, can be real frustrating!” Mr Khoo commented.

All services were finally restored by 12.40pm, according to the bank.
