S'pore-registered container vessel hijacked; all crew members rescued

SINGAPORE — All 25 crew members on board a Singapore-registered container vessel have been rescued and "are reported to be safe" after it was hijacked off the Nigerian Coast late last night (Feb 5).

SINGAPORE — All 25 crew members on board a Singapore-registered container vessel have been rescued and "are reported to be safe" after it was hijacked off the Nigerian Coast late last night (Feb 5).

Nigerian authorities had secured the release of all crew members and the vessel at 1.20am this morning, five hours after a report was first received by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).  

No Singaporeans were on the Safmarine Kuramo, said the MPA in a press statement today. The crew members had comprised of nationals from the Philippines, South Africa, India, United Kingdom, and Thailand.

At the time of the incident, the vessel — managed by Maersk Line A/S — was proceeding from Pointe Noire, Congo, to Port Onne, Nigeria.
