SINGAPORE — Students taking the International Baccalaureate (IB) examination in Singapore continued to dominate the field when it comes to perfect scores, making up 60.6 per cent of perfect scorers from the Nov 2016 sitting.

A total of 1,849 students from Singapore sat for the session, achieving a pass rate of 97.32 per cent. This is above the global average pass rate of 70 per cent and the Asia Pacific average pass rate of 91.3 per cent, and ahead of Australia (94.07 per cent), New Zealand (93.06 per cent), Fiji (81.8 per cent) and Japan (76.92 per cent).

However, the pass rate of this cohort was a shade lower than the 98 per cent achieved by students from Singapore who sat for the exam in Nov 2015.

Students from Singapore also emerged ahead when it came to the global average score, with a national average of 38.27 points, which was in line with the national average of 38.5 points in the Nov 2015 sitting.

The global average for the Nov 2016 sitting was 29.21 points while the Asia Pacific average was 34.82 points.

There are 22 schools in Singapore offering the IB Diploma programme, among them Anglo-Chinese School (ACS) (Independent), St Joseph’s Institution, Hwa Chong International School, Singapore Sports School and the School of the Arts. Students are set to receive their results over the next few days.
