SINGAPORE — Room attendants at Sheraton Towers have received a 7-per-cent increase in their gross salaries since June, thanks to a more productive room check-in process. The hotel had digitised its check-in process, giving room attendants less paperwork and allowing them to do their work faster. In turn, the increased productivity led to pay increments. Room attendants also receive a monthly productivity bonus of S$100. Sheraton Tower’s adjustments is just one of the 238 job improvements in the hospitality and business sectors that has impacted 18,378 workers in 172 companies since the launch of the Inclusive Growth Programme by the labour movement in August 2010. The increased productivity has led to these workers receiving an average wage increment of 11.06 per cent. NTUC Secretary-General Lim Swee Say toured Sheraton Towers Singapore this morning (August 21) — together with union leaders from the Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union — to view the hotel’s projects that have raised productivity and benefitted their workers.
