Sultan Mosque’s S$3.45m upgrade to start in August

SINGAPORE — Sultan Mosque’s S$3.45 million mosque upgrade will start next month and visitors will be able to enjoy the new lifts by the fourth quarter of next year.

As announced in February, two lifts will be added to the mosque and current ablution areas will be replaced by more spacious ones. The domes will also be refurbished, electrical installations rewired, and a new coat of paint given to the entire complex.

The upgrading works were launched alongside Hari Raya Puasa prayers at the mosque today (July 28), during which Ustaz Mohamed Fatris Bakaram, Mufti of Singapore, told Muslims that it is important to be equipped with sound religious knowledge especially when faced with material calling for acts of violence.

“We will not be gullible and easily swayed by all sorts of claims that are being widely circulated. We will not fall for the manipulated interpretations of the religious texts that these people are making to justify their own desires and personal gains,” he said.
