SINGAPORE — A concrete sunshade on the fourth floor of Block 201E Tampines Street 23 was dislodged on Sunday (Sept 25) morning, and rested on the sunshade on the third floor.

A statement from the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) on Sunday evening said the Professional Engineer (PE) engaged by Tampines Town Council has inspected and assessed that the structural integrity of the main building is not affected by the incident.

Town council chairman Baey Yam Keng said there were no casualties or injuries resulting from the incident, and the town council is investigating the cause of the incident.

The dislodged sunshade was removed just before 5pm Sunday.

In the statement, BCA said that as an added safety precaution, the PE will also inspect all the other HDB blocks in the area with similar architectural facade.

Town council staff and the police arrived at the scene shortly after to assess the incident. After cordoning off the area, Tampines Town Council staff are now using tension cords to tie back the dislodged sunshade by securing it from the rooftop, Tampines Member of Parliament Cheng Li Hui told TODAY.

A crane was deployed to remove the sun breaker.
