SINGAPORE — A 25-year-old man was charged on Monday (Sept 26) with the murder of a 60-year-old Aslam Alodin, who is believed to be his father.

Sabri Aslam was accused of killing Mr Aslam between 8pm and 8.22pm on Saturday at Block 152B Bishan Street 11.

The police said they received a call requesting for assistance at about 8.20pm on Saturday.

Upon arrival, Mr Aslam was found lying motionless and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene about 9pm, the police said in a statement.

Sabri — who wore a yellow top and had to be supported by police officers in court on Monday — will be remanded for psychiatric assessment for three weeks. His case will be mentioned in court again on Oct 17.

While neighbours have described the family to be generally quiet, one of them told TODAY that the deceased's wife had banged on his door for help on Saturday after she found her husband unconscious.

According to the neighbours, four lived in the Bishan flat: The deceased, his wife as well as their two sons.

If convicted of Mr Aslam's murder, Sabri faces the death penalty or life imprisonment.
