SINGAPORE — A 38-year-old Indonesian man was charged in court this morning (Nov 15) over the alleged stabbing and attempted armed robbery that occurred at the heart of the Central Business District yesterday.

The man's name was identified as Arun in the charge sheet. Police recovered a knife with a blade 12.5cm long.

“As the case is before the courts, it is inappropriate to comment further,” said a police spokesman.

The incident happened at 1.03pm near the Raffles Place MRT station exit. An eyewitness told Channel NewsAsia that he noticed Arun following closely behind the victim, identified as Mr Kang Tie Tie, before a moan was heard. It was then that the victim realised he had been stabbed, the eyewitness said.

Mr Kang was stabbed in his right waist, right hip and right upper waist. Arun grabbed a sling bag off Mr Kang and ran towards UOB plaza, where he was caught by passers-by.

A keysmith who runs a stall outside The Arcade told TODAY that he recognised Mr Kang as a frequent visitor to the building. Mr Kang was carrying in his sling bag over S$178,000 in local and foreign currencies, as well as three cash cheques valued at S$607,368.50.
