SINGAPORE — The police have arrested a 48-year-old man for his suspected involvement in multiple cases of employment scam, where he allegedly conned job seekers into paying agent fees to him during their interviews.
The suspect, who would be charged in court on Saturday (July 23) for cheating, allegedly contacted the job seekers to arrange for interviews after they had posted their resumes on social-media platforms, the police said in a press release.
During the interview, he would collect the fees from the victims and slip away after telling them he was going to prepare a receipt.
The police said they have been receiving such reports from victims since late June, and following investigations, have arrested the suspect along Geylang Lorong 27 on Thursday at about 10pm.
The suspect is believed to be involved in several similar cheating cases, preliminary investigations showed. If convicted, he may be jailed 10 years and fined.
The police are reminding the public to be wary of strangers claiming to be employment agents and to verify their identities before handing money to or entering into any transactions with them.
