SINGAPORE – The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) today (March 8) kicked-off its Open House, which provided potential students with a glimpse into life on campus and how classes are conducted in the university.

The Open House - which is held over this weekend (March 8-9) from 9.30am to 6.30pm - saw current students show off some of their inventions and share their experiences during attachments with the Massachusetts Institute and Technology and China’s Zhejiang University.

Those who attend the Open House can also take part in design workshops, where they can create their own instruments using a circuit board and a simple drawing.

SUTD currently has around 600 students and will welcome its third intake in May. Students have to undergo a fixed foundation curriculum in the first year before deciding whether to specialise in one of the school’s four pillars – Engineering Product Development, Information Systems Technology and Design, Engineering Systems and Design, and Architecture and Sustainable Design.

Irene Foo, 19, who hopes to pursue a Bachelor of Architecture in SUTD, said: “Seeing how different classes are conducted here compared to other universities is an eye-opener. I also enjoyed talking to current students to se what their experience in SUTD has been like.”

Another SUTD hopeful, 22-year-old Adrian Lim, said: “The hostel tour and design workshop do give me a good idea at what life at SUTD can be like. Fingers crossed I’ll be able to get a place here.”
