SINGAPORE — A 19-year-old was charged in court on Monday (April 24) with one count of causing grievous hurt with a rash act, after he crashed his Nissan GTR into a Toyota driven by a 66-year-old man.
The accident occurred at a car park along Kallang Walk on the evening of Aug 27 last year, and left Mr Teong Hien Sing with serious injuries.
Court documents noted that Herman Shi Ximu failed to come to a halt at the stop line and give way to vehicles.
He went straight ahead and collided with the car driven by
Mr Teong, who was also going straight from Shi's left to the right side.
Shi told the court that he intends to plead guilty and will not be getting a lawyer.
He will return to court on May 8. Shi, who was 18 at the time, was arrested by the police two days after the incident for dangerous driving and taking part in an unauthorised speed trial.
The police said in a statement then that the teen was believed to have been accelerating and travelling at a high speed before the accident.
His driving licence was suspended immediately after his arrest, and the Nissan GTR was impounded by the Traffic Police.
Both vehicles were seriously damaged after the crash, and Mr Teong sustained injuries to his ribs.
If found guilty of a rash act causing grievous hurt, Shi could be jailed up to four years, or fined up to S$10,000, or both.
