SINGAPORE — A man and a woman, aged 18 and 19 respectively, were arrested on Tuesday (March 21) for their suspected involvement in a series of theft.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the police said they received more than five reports from victims who rented their rooms to the duo via an online home rental platform. TODAY understands that the platform in question is Airbnb.

At least S$5,000 worth of valuables — including cash, personal laptops and mobile phones — were discovered to be missing after the duo had left their victims’ units.

After conducting extensive ground enquiries, officers from Bedok Division arrested the duo at the vicinity of Jalan Teck Kee.

The suspects will be charged in Court on Thursday for the offence of Theft In Dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
