Thomson Line construction in full swing

SINGAPORE — The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the final three of 25 major civil contracts for Thomson Line’s Orchard, Marina South and Gardens by the Bay stations and tunnels at a total value of around S$1.32 billion.

SINGAPORE — The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the final three of 25 major civil contracts for Thomson Line’s Orchard, Marina South and Gardens by the Bay stations and tunnels at a total value of around S$1.32 billion.

This brings the total value of the 25 major civil contracts to S$7.77 billion. Fully underground, the Thomson Line will be 30km long, with 22 stations including six interchange stations in all.

Construction works on the line are currently in full swing and it is expected to open in phases between 2019 and 2021.

Construction of Orchard station has been awarded to Penta-Ocean Construction Company Limited — Bachy Soletanche Singapore Private Limited Joint Venture, at a contract sum of approximately S$498 million. Orchard station will be an interchange station connecting Thomson Line with the North-South Line. Penta-Ocean is also currently involved in the construction of Downtown Line’s Bendemeer station, as well as the Thomson Line’s Woodlands North and Bright Hill stations.

Marina South station and its associated tunnels has been awarded to Sinohydro Corporation Limited (Singapore Branch) — Sembcorp Design and Construction Private Limited Joint Venture, for a contract sum of S$488 million. The company is also currently involved in the construction of the Thomson Line’s Napier Station.

Lastly, the construction of the Gardens by the Bay station and tunnels has been awarded to Nishimatsu Construction Company Limited — Bachy Soletanche Singapore Private Limited Joint Venture, at a contract sum of S$331 million. Nishimatsu is currently involved in the construction of tunnels between Downtown Line’s Ubi and Kaki Bukit stations.
