SINGAPORE — The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded four civil contracts, worth around S$1.13 billion in total, for works involving the construction of four stations on the Thomson Line.

Work for the stations — Orchard Boulevard, Great World, Outram Park and Shenton Way — are expected to start in the second quarter of this year and scheduled to be completed by 2021.

KTC Civil Engineering and Construction won the S$143 million contract to build the Orchard Boulevard station. Established since 1988, the construction company is currently involved in the construction of Downtown Line 3’s Tampines Station and has undertaken numerous civil engineering projects such as transit projects, expressways and earthwork projects in Singapore.

A S$316 million contract for the construction of Great World Station and its associated tunnels was awarded to Tiong Seng Contractor and its joint venture partner, the Singapore branch of Dongah Geological Engineering, a South Korean construction company set up in 1971. Tiong Seng is one of Singapore’s leading building construction and civil engineering contractors and is involved in the construction of Downtown Line 2’s Hillview and Cashew Stations.

Dongah Geological Engineering has been involved in several LTA projects such as the Marina Coastal Expressway and Downtown Line as a specialist contractor.

The third contract, worth S$368 million, was awarded to Shanghai Tunnel Engineering for the construction of Shenton Way station and its associated tunnels. The Chinese company has extensive experience with transit projects in Singapore and is involved in a number of the LTA’s projects on the Downtown Line.

Another contract, worth S$301 million, was awarded to Daelim Industrial for the construction of Outram Park station and its associated tunnels. Daelim is one of South Korea’s top construction and engineering companies and has undertaken numerous subways and high speed railway projects like the Seoul Subway and Honam High-Speed Railway.

The LTA said Outram Park station will be an interchange station connecting the Thomson Line with the East-West and North East Lines, which will improve connectivity to the Central Business District and Marina Bay areas.

With 22 stations, the 30-km Thomson Line will operate fully underground and be completed in phases between 2019 and 2021.
