Three doctors fined, censured for making false declarations to get practising certs

SINGAPORE — Three doctors have been fined and censured by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) for making false declarations to procure practising certificates, according to a press statement released today (Oct 16).

SINGAPORE — Three doctors have been fined and censured by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) for making false declarations to procure practising certificates, according to a press statement released today (Oct 16).

Dr Chio Han Sin Roy (Famicare Bedok Clinic), 43, Dr Wong Mei Ling Gladys (Healthpoint Family Clinic & Surgery), 50, and Dr Ng Hor Liang (Famicare Bedok Clinic), 48, were unable to renew their PCs when it expired in 2011 due to a shortfall of Continuing Medical Education (CME) points.

After making up for the shortfall, they each submitted a Letter of Undertaking to the SMC for the renewal of their certificates, falsely declaring that they were not practising medicine from the time that their certificates expired, the SMC said.

Both Dr Chio and Dr Wong were fined S$10,000 while Dr Ng was fined S$20,000. All parties involved have to fulfil 10 per cent to 50 per cent of the CME points requirement as well as be censured and give written undertakings to the SMC.

They are also required to pay the cost and expenses of and incidental to these proceedings, including the costs of the solicitors to the SMC.
