Malaysian authorities react to Sarawak Report’s claims

Malaysians authorities may launch a further crackdown on whistleblower site Sarawak Report following its release of documents yesterday claiming that Prime Minister Najib Razak was about to be charged with corruption by former Attorney General Abdul Gani Patail before he was removed from his post this week. The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has denied that it had drafted or issued such a document.

Lower Delta Road abuse case to be mentioned in court

The man who was charged last week with abetting his neighbour in causing hurt to her mother by feeding the latter human faeces and urine will have his case mentioned in court today. Darwinder Singh, 39, was hauled to court after a video clip showing an elderly woman allegedly being abused outside a Lower Delta Road HDB flat went viral last week.

Will TPP talks drag on?

Trade ministers involved in the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) talks in Hawaii are expected to issue a statement later today or early Saturday on whether they have agreed on a broad outline of the ambitious trade pact. However, with unresolved issues on drug patent periods, and agricultural tariffs, it is uncertain if negotiators can reach a breakthrough by the end of this week. If negotiations breakdown, talks could drag on into 2017 or even later.

IRCC Awards Night 2015

Awards will be given out for the first time to recognise outstanding initiatives, members and stakeholders of Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circles, which were set up in every constituency in 2006 to build relationships, and forge understanding among the various racial and religious communities. Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong will give a speech at the awards ceremony, which will be held at Orchard Hotel tonight.

Former Arsenal footballer Emmanuel Petit is in town to launch the ELEVEN Sports Network at Club 39. The two new sports channels, ELEVEN and ELEVEN SPORTS, will be available for free preview on Singtel TV till Aug 23.
