SMRT to start trading on SGX again
All eyes will be on the Singapore Stock Exchange as SMRT is expected to begin trading again on Thursday. Trading for the transport company was halted until Wednesday, with its stock priced at S$1.545, as reports of a Temasek buyout of SMRT emerged. SMRT will be wholly-owned by Temasek when the acquisition is completed and will be delisted from the Singapore Exchange.
Asean foreign ministers meeting begins in Laos
The 49th Association of South-east Asian Nations (Asean) Foreign Ministers meeting (AMM) kicks off on Thursday in Vientiane, with senior officials engaged in a series of preparatory meetings before the ministers arrive over the weekend. The divisive South China Sea issue is expected to dominate the agenda, with member states struggling to come to a consensus after an international court invalidated China’s expansive claims in the regional waterway.
Singapore’s first Michelin-starred restaurants will be revealed
The list will be unveiled on Thursday with the launch of the inaugural Michelin Guide Singapore. This is the first country globally to hand out Michelin stars during an awards ceremony-cum-gala dinner that is open to the public. Held at Resorts World Ballroom, West (Basement 2), the presentation of the awards will start from around 7.15pm. Last week, Michelin launched its Bib Gourmand selections — a rating that recognises friendly establishments that serve good food at moderate prices. Thirty-four eateries, 17 of them hawker stalls, were highlighted in that list.
A new football tournament will kick off
Epson Singapore is launching the inaugural Epson Singapore Cup, a local football tournament for aspiring youth talents, at The Refinery, King George’s Avenue.
Weather forecast
Thundery showers are expected mainly over southern, eastern and western Singapore in the late morning. Temperatures will likely range between 26°C and 33°C.
