Amos Yee to face eight charges in court

Teenage blogger Amos Yee is set to be charged on Thursday for similar offences to those that he faced last year. The 17-year-old is set to face eight charges, including five for allegedly wounding the religious feelings of Muslims and one for allegedly wounding the religious feelings of Christians. These charges relate to content he posted online between November last year and last Thursday. The remaining two charges are for allegedly failing to show up at Jurong Police Division last December and again this month, despite a notice from Assistant Superintendent of Police Doreen Chong - as well as a magistrate’s order - to do so.

Ex-private banker Yeo Jiawei to get bail decision

Former BSI Bank private banker Yeo Jiawei will be back in court on Thursday to hear a district judge’s decision on whether to grant him bail. The 33-year-old is facing nine charges, including receiving ill-gotten funds amid global investigations into Malaysian state investment fund 1MDB, forgery, cheating and perverting the course of justice. His lawyer has argued for him to be released on bail of between S$200,000 and S$400,000, noting that it has been more than a month since he was held in remand and pointing out that only two of his offences are non-bailable. Prosecutors, however, oppose the move for Yeo’s lack of compunction in tampering with witnesses involved in the case.
