Hollande meets Putin

French President Francois Hollande arrives in Moscow today to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss joint anti-terrorism efforts against the Islamic State. Among the measures that might be discussed would be the possibility of closing the border between Syria and Turkey in order to prevent the flow of fighters from crossing the frontier — a French proposal that was backed yesterday by Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Taiwan singled out in ISIS video

Taiwan will be on edge today after being singled out in an IS video threatening reprisals for Taipei’s involvement in the American-led coalition against the extremist group. On Tuesday, Indonesian authorities confirmed that they were on the alert against possible threats after a video purportedly from the East Indonesia Mujahidin, an Islamic State (IS)-affiliate, called for attacks on Jakarta’s police headquarters and the presidential palace.
