The Future of Us exhibition opens to public
The Future of Us exhibition, one of the last major events in the SG50 year of celebrations, opens to the public today. Possible future scenarios in Singapore in the year 2030 are on display at the exhibition at Gardens by the Bay. Admission is free, but visitors are encouraged to register for tickets in advance at www.thefutureofus.sg. The exhibition runs until March 8 next year.
World AIDS Day
Today is World AIDS Day, which is aimed at showing support for people living with HIV and commemorating those who have died. Despite major advances, HIV/AIDS remains one of the world’s most significant public health challenges, particularly in low and middle income countries, with new diagnoses every year and young women seen as being particularly at risk.
Xi in Africa
Chinese President Xi Jinping will arrive in Zimbabwe today for a two-day visit before hopping over to South Africa. The trip is likely to boost China’s relations with Africa, which supplies oil and raw materials such as copper and uranium to the world’s second-largest economy. China is Africa’s largest trading partner and the trade volume between them amounted to US$220 billion in 2014, according to China state news agency Xinhua.
APG 2015 welcome ceremony for officials, delegates
Mr Lim Teck Yin, Chairman, Singapore ASEAN Para Games Organising Committee Exco (SAPGOC), will be welcoming team officials and delegates from the 10 participating countries in a Team Welcome Ceremony at Marina Bay Sands event plaza at 9am. There will be a flag raising ceremony for all 10 nations followed by an exchange of gifts between SAPGOC and the participating National Paralympic Councils (NPCs).
