OECD to release results of study on adult literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills
The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is set to release the results of a study on adult literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills on Tuesday, which covered 34 countries, including Singapore, which was assessed for the first time. Other countries surveyed include the United States, England, Germany, Indonesia, an South Korea. The study describes adults’ proficiency in the three information-processing skills assessed, and examines how skills proficiency is related to labour market and social outcomes.
EU leaders to gather in Brussels for summit
All 28 European Union (EU) leaders will gather in Brussels on Tuesday for the start of a two-day European Council summit to discuss the result of Britain’s referendum on leaving the bloc. Outgoing British prime minister David Cameron has said last week he will leave it to his successor to start the formal two-year process of leaving the bloc but European leaders said this must happen soon, setting up a possible clash at Tuesday’s summit.
South Korean PM to meet Chinese counterpart
South Korean Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn is meeting his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang in Beijing on Tuesday as part of his five-day visit to China. Both leaders are expected to discuss bilateral and regional issues, including North Korea’s recent firing of an intermediate-range ballistic missile and its impact on the Korean Peninsula. After five consecutive failures, North Korea launched the Musudan missile on June 22, ratcheting up tensions in the area.
