Man convicted of threatening PM Lee on Facebook expected to be sentenced
A 33-year-old man who was convicted of criminal intimidation for sending a series of private messages to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s Facebook account threatening to attack him is due to be sentenced today. Tan Yeong Hong, who is diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, said he sent the messages after “being prompted by someone with a hidden audio and surveillance device planted in my house”. He pleaded guilty to three charges, , which include two counts of causing hurt to two police officers. The prosecution is seeking a total sentence of 18 to 23 months’ jail
Chinese president in South Africa
Chinese President Xi Jinping travels to South Africa today to meet with President Jacob Zuma and later co-chair the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation summit in Johannesburg. Trade relations and development projects will top the summit’s agenda, but talks are also planned on joint anti-terrorism efforts. During this trip, Mr Xi and Mr Zuma are likely to pursue cooperation on issues such as energy, finance, infrastructure, human resources, marine issues and production capacity.

In conjunction with the 8th ASEAN Para Games, SportCares is organising the inaugural ASEAN Para Games Symposium on Sport for Social Inclusion at the Marina Bay Sands today - a day before the official opening of the Games. This Symposium aims to highlight sport as an ideal platform for fostering social inclusion, personal empowerment and improved health for people with disabilities. Sanctioned by the ASEAN Para Sports Federation, the federation hopes to see the symposium established as a main staple of all future ASEAN Para Games.
