• United States Vice-President Mike Pence will meet Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo, where the two leaders will discuss the threat posed by North Korea’s weapons programme. Mr Pence will also address US troops at the Yokota Air Base and tour the site of a Patriot PAC-3 missile battery, which is Japan’s last line of defence against incoming North Korean warheads.
