SINGAPORE — Train services between Marina South Pier and Newton MRT stations were disrupted for about an hour on Thursday morning (April 21) due to a train fault along the North-South Line (NSL).

A stalled locomotive at Raffles Place was the cause of the service disruption, said Mr Patrick Nathan, Vice President for Corporate Information and Communications at SMRT. The cause of the fault on the locomotive is being investigated, he added. A passenger train was later activated to haul the faulty locomotive to Bishan Depot.

Free shuttle bus services were available along the affected areas, said SMRT, which first tweeted about the train fault at 6.09am. About 10 minutes later, the transport operator updated ton Twitter that services were expected to resume at 6.45am.

At 6.32am, SMRT said train services in the opposite direction, between Raffles Place and Marina South Pier, were also affected. The expected resumption time was also 6.45am.

At 6.53am, SMRT tweeted that train sevices from Marina South Pier to Newton had resumed. Four minutes later, the transport company gave another update that services between Raffles Place to Marina South Pier had also resumed.

On Tuesday, SMRT had celebrated 100 days without any service disruption along the NSL.

Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan wrote on his blog that day that achieving 100 disruption-free days on the NSL was “no mean feat” as it was the oldest of Singapore’s five MRT lines.
