SINGAPORE — The three men who were charged last month with conspiring to commit murder will have their cases heard in the High Court.

This was after Deputy Public Prosecutor John Lu told the State Courts today (July 2) that the charges may only be heard in the High Court.

Mr Lu said the prosecution is not ready to proceed with the cases as they are tying up the loose ends in investigations. He asked the court for a two-week adjournment.

Last month, two Myanmar nationals and one Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) were charged with conspiring to commit murder. The two Myanmar nationals are Yae Wynnt Oaung, 32 and Phyo Min Naing, 31. Zaw Min Hlaing, 37 is a Singapore PR.

Another accomplice, Win Kyaw Kyaw Aung @ Aung Aung, 29, is still at large. According to court documents, the group’s alleged murder target was Singapore PR Aye Maung Maung Thet, 28.

The suspects engaged lawyers through their family members earlier this week. Yae Wynnt Oaung is represented by Mr S S Dhillon, while the other two suspects are represented by Mr S Radakrishnan.

The four men allegedly planned to carry out their crime on June 20. The following day at 9.32pm, three of them tried to abduct Aye Maung Maung Thet at a multi-storey car park at Block 747A Pasir Ris Street 7.

The alleged victim was assaulted and a taser gun was used on him, but the attackers fled when the victim’s cries for help attracted the attention of passers-by.

Three of the men were arrested after the victim made a police report on the same day. One of the suspects was arrested near Balestier Road and the other two suspects were arrested at Aloha Changi chalet.

Police seized items from the chalet such as kitchen knives, a gas cooker, gas cylinder tank, a tool set, plastic sheets, a cleaver, aprons, cable ties and rubber boots. The police also seized a white Mitsubishi multi-purpose vehicle at the basement carpark of Changi Airport Terminal 3.

The case will be mentioned again on Aug 13.
