SINGAPORE — A truck driver was yesterday sentenced to three weeks in jail by the State Courts for pushing and kicking an elderly motorcyclist along an expressway.

Shahul Hamid Ahamed, 33, pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to Mr Ramlee Ahmad, 70, at about 10.40am along the Ayer Rajah Expressway on Sept 30 last year.

The court heard that Mr Ramlee was riding along the expressway when the lorry Shahul was driving abruptly cut into his lane without signalling.

When Mr Ramlee managed to position his motorbike next to the lorry, he gestured at Shahul for driving recklessly.

Both men then pulled their vehicles over to the side of the road. Shahul exited his lorry and approached Mr Ramlee in an aggressive manner, saying, “You want to fight me?”

When Mr Ramlee took out his handphone to take a picture of Shahul, he pushed the elderly man and caused him to fall and hit his head against the road. Shahul then kicked Mr Ramlee several times.

Shahul’s lawyer told the court that his client is appealing against the sentence. He is currently out on S$15,000 bail.

Shahul could have been jailed up to two years or fined up to S$5,000, or both. Amanda Lee
