SINGAPORE — Two cannabis plants, along with 1kg of cannabis and other drugs, estimated to be worth about S$38,000 were seized by Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers on Saturday (Sept 3), the enforcement agency said in a statement.

On Friday, officers from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority detected a parcel believed to contain cannabis at the Changi Airfreight Centre.

The next day, the intended recipient of the parcel, a 35-year-old Singapore man, was arrested at Buangkok Crescent. Officers also recovered a small packet of ‘ice’ within a bag the man was carrying.

Thereafter, CNB officers conducted a raid at the man’s residence at Punggol Place, and found two cannabis plants there that were being cultivated, as well as various equipment used for the cultivation of cannabis plants.

Also recovered at the residence were about 13g of "Ice", a small amount of heroin, a small amount of crushed Erimin-5 tablets and various improvised drug-smoking apparatus. A 27-year-old woman at the unit, a Thai national, was also arrested.

The Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty for those convicted of trafficking in more than 500g of cannabis. The cultivation of the cannabis plant is also an offence under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Any person convicted of cultivating the cannabis plant may face a maximum of 20 years
imprisonment or S$40,000 fine or both.

According to the CNB statement, investigations are still ongoing.
