SINGAPORE – Two people were injured after a fire broke out at Far East Plaza this evening (Oct 24), and some 250 people were evacuated from the building.
The fire was located in the storeroom of a sports shop at level two of the building, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
The 20-year-old woman, a staff at the sports shop, suffered burns on both her palms, while a 50-year-old man sprained his ankle and had smoke inhalation. Both were sent to Singapore General Hospital, said SCDF.
Both were trying to stop the fire before the SCDF arrived, reported Channel NewsAsia.
The SCDF received a call at 7.44pm and arrived within eight minutes, with two fire engines, two Red Rhinos, two ambulances and four support appliances. The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes of SCDF’s arrival. The 250 people in the building had been earlier evacuated by the mall’s security personnel.
As at 9.30pm, the building was still closed.
