SINGAPORE — Hours after the second and third suspects in the alleged murder at St James Power Station last Sunday were charged in court on Wednesday (March 15), the police said they had arrested a fifth suspect in the case.
The 22-year-old man was picked up on Tuesday and will be produced in court to face murder charges on Thursday, said the police, who did not name him.
The five are said to have murdered Satheesh Kumar Manogaran, 35, between 5.45am and 6am at St James Power Station, an entertainment outlet along Sentosa Gateway. He was found with stab wounds to his head and back, and was pronounced dead at Singapore General Hospital.
On Wednesday, Muhammad Khalid Kamarudin, 21, and Muhammad Hisham Hassan, 27, joined Shawalludin Sa’adon, 26, as co-accused in the case. A district court granted the police’s request to remand the two for one week to assist with further investigations.
Muhammad Faizal Jamal, 32, was named as another suspect under investigation for Satheesh’s death. It is believed he will also be charged on Thursday.
If convicted, the accused persons will be hanged.
On Sunday night, the police said their preliminary investigations suggest that Satheesh’s death arose from a dispute he had with a St James Power Station employee. The identity of the employee was not disclosed in court documents but Shawalludin worked as a part-time waiter at Postbar, one of the bars at St James Power Station, before he was arrested.
Satheesh’s body was found by police officers patrolling the area. There was another 28-year-old man found with head injuries, said the police. The younger man is currently warded at SGH.
