SINGAPORE — Judicial Commissioners See Kee Oon and Chua Lee Ming have been appointed Judges of the High Court, with their terms to take effect on Jan 31, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced yesterday.

With their appointments, the Supreme Court now has 16 judges — including the Chief Justice and four Judges of Appeal, nine Judicial Commissioners, five Senior Judges and 12 International Judges.

Mr See was elevated to the High Court Bench on April 14, 2014, for a three-year term, but has been serving as the Presiding Judge of the State Courts concurrently.

Besides managing the State Courts, Mr See took on a “substantial load” of adjudication work, including presiding over the City Harvest Church trial, said the PMO.

He has also “added strength to the Bench”, chairing many committees including the Probation Committee, the Community Justice Centre and the Criminal Legal Assistance Steering Committee, the PMO added.

Mr Chua was appointed Judicial Commissioner on Feb 1, 2015, for a two-year term after a varied career in the legal service and private sector.

The PMO said that Mr Chua has “contributed significantly” to the Bench, particularly in the field of company law.

The swearing-in ceremony for the appointments will be held on Feb 1 at the Istana.
