URA seeks public’s ideas for 2 projects

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) is inviting the public to have their say as it launches two projects to gather ideas on improving public spaces.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) is inviting the public to have their say as it launches two projects to gather ideas on improving public spaces.

The initiatives are part of the URA’s Draft Master Plan released this week.

The first project — PubliCity: Your Ideas for Public Spaces — wants ideas on how to develop four public spaces. The four include the 13,000-sqm The Lawn @ Marina Bay along Marina Boulevard, a 1,200-sqm site in Kampong Glam, and two sites along the Singapore River Promenade — High Street Promenade and an open space at Clarke Quay.

The fourth and only public space that is in the heartlands is a 2,000-sqm site located along Woodlands Square, near the Woodlands Civic Centre.

Beyond physical enhancements, the URA said it welcomes ideas on events and activities for these public spaces.

The public has until Feb 14 next year to send their submissions. Ten people stand to win S$1,000 each and their ideas will serve as the inspiration for future improvement projects in these public spaces.

The second project — Pick a Bench, Pick a Place — will be launched in February. Members of the public will be asked to vote for their favourite bench designs, made from the seating planks at the former National Stadium, and choose a location they would like to see it installed. More details of this project will be released nearer to the launch date.
