US Navy Secretary calls on Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen

SINGAPORE — The United States’ Secretary of the Navy Raymond Mabus called on Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen in Singapore this morning (July 30).
Mr Mabus, who is in Singapore for an official visit from yesterday until tomorrow, also called on Permanent Secretary (Defence) Chan Yeng Kit and Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Ng Chee Meng today.
As part of his visit, Mr Mabus visited Changi Naval Base, where he met participants of the annual Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise between the US Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy.
The Ministry of Defence said in a statement that Mr Mabus’ visit “underscores the excellent and long-standing defence ties between Singapore and the US, and in particular, the strong partnership between the navies of both countries”.
Both navies interact extensively through bilateral and multilateral exercises, as well as other regular professional exchanges, the statement said, adding that these interactions strengthen cooperation and foster strong friendships between the two navies’ personnel. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
