SINGAPORE — A vegetation fire broke out near the Sungei Kadut Industrial Estate today (March 7).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the incident at around 4.30pm, and dispatched a fire engine and two Red Rhinos to the scene. The fire was extinguished two and a half hours later, using four water jets, SCDF said.

According to SCDF, approximately 12 personnel were involved in putting out the fire that was the size of three football fields. No casualties were reported, it added.

While the cause of fire is still under investigation, the National Environment Agency (NEA) had earlier said the dry spell in Singapore is expected to continue till the end of February. All areas of Singapore received below-average rainfall in the first half of February, it added.

NEA also said the trend will carry on, with the dry phase of the North-East Monsoon forecast to prevail over the region. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
