SINGAPORE — A 41-year-old woman lost over S$80,000 last month after she was tricked into entering personal details and Internet banking credentials on a fake Singapore Police Force (SPF) website, said the police on Tuesday (Oct 18).

Issuing an alert on the bogus website, the police said the victim lodged a report on Sept 21, over a call from an unknown person claiming to be a police officer. During the call, the caller alleged that the victim was involved in money laundering activities. She was prompted to key in her details on a website provided by the caller for “investigation purposes”.

Subsequently, the victim discovered multiple unauthorised transactions were made on her internet banking account, said the police. “Investigations had revealed that the said website bore resemblance to the SPF website with changes made to the “E-Services” page… The Police would like to clarify that the official SPF website is www.police.gov.sg.”
