Theme: Legacy

A musical set in the 1950s, it will be a tribute to the golden age of Singapore cinema, with references to traditional folklore.

Kelvin Tong

Theme: Tradition

Anchored on the Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb Sweeping Day, it will be about families coming together and exploring traditions that bind the family together. It will touch on the many changes to Singapore’s landscape over the years and how they affect the lives and memories of Singaporeans.

K Rajagopal

Theme: Embrace

It is based on a true and very personal story about the film-maker’s parents — a tribute to them, as well as the early settlers, especially the Indians. The film is about how a newlywed couple have to choose between British citizenship and staying in Singapore. It is about following tradition and, at the same time, embracing change and forging a new life.

Tan Pin Pin

Theme: Roots

The film-maker, who has always been interested in personal journeys, will focus on searching for one’s roots and historical beginnings. As she puts it, roots do not necessarily mean where specifically, or which part of the world, your family comes from — it could be emotional roots of your make-up or it could involve historical roots as well.

Boo Junfeng

Theme: Evolution

It will be set in the present day, but there will be a very brief flashback to 1965. The director aims to capture what has withstood the test of time — such as the connection to the idea of home and identity — and hopes that his short film will prompt viewers to reflect on who we are and what we have become.

Jack Neo

Theme: Time

It is a story set in the ’60s and ’70s about puppy love in a kampung between a boy and girl who are about 12 years old. The short film will be entirely in Hokkien.

Royston Tan

Theme: Song

Set in the 1980s, it will revolve around neighbours who do not speak the same language, but communicate through their love for music.
