Tens of thousands of job vacancies in Singapore go unfilled, even as redundancies have climbed.

In this eight-part series, TODAY tells you where the jobs are, the salary range in the sectors that are hiring, and how to upgrade yourself if you are making a mid-career switch.

In the latest instalment, we look at vacancies in the thriving international trading industry. It employs one-tenth of Singapore’s total workforce — or 320,000 workers — across more than 34,000 firms. More than six in 10 of those employed in the sector (63 per cent) are professionals, managers, executives and technicians.

While it is not often in the headlines, the international trading industry is the second-biggest services sector in Singapore, and forms 15.7 per cent of Singapore’s gross domestic product. The sector’s operating revenues have tripled to nearly S$3 trillion in 2014, from S$1 trillion in 2005.
