Woman, 53, dies from dengue

SINGAPORE — A woman in her fifties has died from dengue, making it the seventh person who has succumbed to the mosquito-borne disease this year.

SINGAPORE — A 53-year-old woman has died from dengue, making her the seventh person who has succumbed to the mosquito-borne disease this year.

The woman, who lived at Hougang Street 22, is believed to have suffered from chronic ailments. She was first seen at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Emergency Department on Nov 11 with a history of fever. She was diagnosed with dengue and admitted. Her condition deteriorated and she subsequently died on Nov 16. 

Singapore is currently experiencing its worst dengue epidemic, with 20,057 people infected this year as of 3.30pm yesterday (Nov 19).

A dengue death was last reported less than two months ago on Sep 30, when a 35-year-old woman living in Yishun Ring Road died.

There are 109 reported dengue cases so far this week, while 447 people were infected last week.
