SINGAPORE — A woman who stabbed her former lover after failed attempts to reconcile pleaded guilty today (Oct 2) to an amended charge of attempted culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Giselle Shi Jia Wei, 25, was earlier charged with attempted murder for stabbing Ummul Qurratu ‘Ain Abdul Rahman, 22, at a Geylang hotel in July 2012. The trial had gone on for about six days before today’s development.

Shi sobbed as she pleaded guilty to the amended charge. She also consented to have the second charge of attempted suicide stood down and taken into consideration for sentencing.

Justice Choo Han Teck is expected to sentence her next Friday. For attempted culpable homicide, she faces up to 15 years’ jail and a fine.
