SINGAPORE – A woman's leg was stuck between the platform gap at Boon Keng MRT station this morning (May 14), causing a train delay along the North East Line (NEL).

"At about 8.06am this morning, a female commuter lost her balance after she was pushed while standing in the train near the door at the North East Line Boon Keng Station," said Ms Tammy Tan, SBS Transit's Senior Vice-President, Corporate Communications.

"Her leg slipped through the 10cm gap and she could not get it out," said Ms Tan. SBS Transit Staff and fellow commuters quickly attended to the woman, who is in her 40s. The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the situation at 8.10am.

The woman was later freed by the SCDF using hydraulic rescue tools. She was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital in a stable and conscious state, said the SCDF.

SBS Transit tweeted that the NEL service towards Harbourfont was delayed up to 10 minutes. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced free bus services at all NEL stations via Twitter at around 8.45am.

At 8.49am, train services were resumed. “We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused," SBS Transit tweeted at about 8.53am.

Earlier this year in March, a similar incident happened along the NEL causing train delays, where a  student's leg was trapped in the 10cm gap between the train and platform at Hougang MRT station.
