Zalora, Reebonz deny customer databases leaked online

SINGAPORE – Online retailers Zalora and Reebonz have refuted rumours that their customer database was leaked online.

SINGAPORE – Online retailers Zalora and Reebonz have refuted rumours that their customer databases were leaked online.

Posting a screenshot on its Facebook page earlier today (Nov 12), the satirical group SMRT Ltd (Feedback) claimed that the personal data of 400,000 customers from Zalora, 440,000 customers from Reebonz and 650,000 customers from Deal.com.sg are being sold.

The photo showed a list of customers’ information including email addresses, billing addresses and phone numbers.

Responding to these claims, Zalora issued an official statement saying it has checked its database log and had confirmed that the database captured in the screenshot did not belong to them.

“We would like to assure our online shoppers that we follow a comprehensive personal data protection policy and our database is secured behind several layers of protection and access control, with detailed audit logs for monitoring,” said Zalora.

“Our customer database is extremely secure and has never been sold, monetized or shared with third parties. We do not compromise on our customers’ privacy,” it added.

In a statement, Reebonz said: "The data that is purportedly in circulation does not form part of our database."

"Reebonz would like to assure our customers that we are strongly committed to protecting all our customers’ personal data. We follow stringent practices to protect the confidentiality of our customers’ personal data," said the retailer. "We share concerns that have surfaced around this issue and would like to reinforce the utmost importance that our organisation places around our data systems. We constantly seek to enhance our data security and the integrity of our data systems."
